Abuja - President Muhammadu Buhari is set to release the names of
people who have voluntarily returned looted public funds on May 29,
ahead of Nigeria's democracy day.
In addition, the President is also set to disclose the total amount of funds recovered so far on the day, Naij reports.
“So far, what has come out, what has been recovered, in whatever currency, from which ministry, department and individuals, I intend on the 29th to speak on this because all that Nigerians are getting to know are from the newspapers, radio and television. We want to make a comprehensive report by May 29,” said Buhari.
The statement comes as the result of a previous promise made by Buhari, calling on Nigerians to have access to information regarding the recovery of looted funds, in an effort to improve transparency and accountability within the country.
Meanwhile, Nigeria's Head of State has vowed to expose corruption, claiming that his administration would set up a public central register of beneficial owners of companies.
